Baby makes three!

Baby makes three … This adorable family asked me to help announce their pregnancy a while back and here we are already taking newborn pictures. I love so much about this family. They’re now a #partyoffive and they have two girls and one boy (like I have), they live in a home with a lot of ‘diy’ (check out the AMAZING wood wall) and it’s even a classic ‘mid-western’ style. They’re down to earth and welcoming and gracious and kind (and funny). The kids kept me in stitches the whole time I was with them. ‘Big brother’ tried so hard to be near his sweet baby sister even when she cried. However, as you can see by the looks on his face it was everything he could to to lay still and wait to see if she would calm down. My intent was to crop in a bit to show just the shirts of the older kids along with the baby but it didn’t really happen to turn out that way. We tried a few times to soothe her in hopes to get a happy and calm look but we ended up with these priceless expressions of ‘real life’ instead. […]

BIG Cupcake Truck

BIG Cupcake Truck ‘Big Cupcake Truck’ cupcakes are BIG in size, taste and quality. They deliver the BEST tasting and BIGGEST gourmet cupcakes all over the valley. Tracy Lombardi, owner and chef, personally mixes, bakes and decorates each and every cupcake herself. She has sought out the absolute best ingredients and uses only organic, GMO-free and RbST free. She offers many flavors and even has gluten-free cupcakes and will soon have vegan too. They’re all baked in small batches to assure that each new batch is just as good as the ones before. I had the privilege of photographing the beautiful (seriously, they’re a work of art) cupcakes for the launch of her new website. We had fun changing up all the sets and chatted and laughed the whole time. And I know what you’re thinking … yes, I did get to taste test them too!! πŸ™‚ Tracy hasn’t always been a cupcake chef. Her background and degree is in finance. She was a financial advisor and corporate trainer for about 15 years before opening up an appraisal management company with over 500 employees in all 50 states. After her daughter (Lexi, who I absolutely adore) was born, her priorities […]

Before and After Photoshop Edited Gif Animation

Before and After Photoshop Edited Gif Animation That time when you wish you had taken a shot without the Girly Go Garter because the model is rocking the dress and the hair and the pose, and you envision her using the image for her ad page on her road to becoming Miss North Phoenix’s Outstanding Teen … so you just remove it in post and make it as if it never happened. Congratulations Jesse Pike. You were a gorgeous model for us during Nathalie & Co. Dancewear and Little Things marketing shoot and you were a gorgeous display of talent and poise on stage during the competition. Can’t wait to see what great things you do this year during your 2017 reign. xoxo Β© Rusty Gate Photography www.RustyGatePhotography.com Nathalie & Co. Family Session Grand DeTour Illinois

Family Session Grand Detour Illinois I was thrilled to get the call again from this momma! Paige, Chris and the girls are great fun and I was excited to see them again. But I was floored when the girls got out of the car. I couldn’t believe how much both of them have grown since last summer. I commented that this year’s ‘corn crops’ were the tallest I’ve ever seen, so I guess it was a great growing season all around. Paige chose to have their session in a little town near Dixon, in Grand Detour, Illinois where there were lots of color and texture and ‘quiet’. We walked the streets and found some great pockets of light in the tall prairie grass and out in front of the ‘John Deere’ museum. And after a short drive (around the block! … *oh, how I’ve missed using those terms … in Phoenix we don’t really refer to a quick drive as ‘around the block’!!) we continued our session in the middle of the street and snapped a few in front of an amazing red barn. I love that we could just pull over when ever we felt like it and hop […]

A Boy and His Truck Senior Session

A Boy and His Truck Senior Session We all know how ‘boys love their trucks’ and this boy is no different! πŸ˜‰ He acquired his red chevy by way of his grandfather and I’m sure it will stay with him for many many years. It has a very special significance as do the few items that he carries with him now. I know his grandfather is very proud looking down at him!! I photographed Chase’s older brother Taylen last year when I traveled to Dixon so it was great to see and meet him this year as well. And I hope my trend continues so I’ll be able to capture their younger sister Trista’s senior pictures down the road. Chase is the ‘all american kid’ from the midwest. He plays varsity soccer and obviously love the outdoors. Like his brother, he’s very respectful, engaging and is quick to smile. And not once did he complain or act like he wasn’t having fun. *Having his girlfriend with us during the session helped a bit, I’m sure. πŸ˜‰ Chase, I wish for you all of life’s successes and hope you have a happy, fun and safe senior year! Congrats!!! #2017

Vintage Glam Mommy and Me

Vintage Glam Mommy and Me These styled sessions are always so much fun for me! I love seeing the wonder on the little ones faces and can’t help but think they’ll fondly remember the fun they had too looking back some day. This curly haired cherub was a bit too young last year when I did these in Dixon so this year was extra special to see her playing with some of her own grandmother’s things that she had as a young girl. I use the term ‘vintage’ very loosly as a lot of the products like the ‘Dippity Do’ and the ‘Aqua Net’ and the electric hair dryer were things I used too. πŸ˜‰ Her grandmother Joann, is a very dear friend of my sister’s so using Joann’s things and having her participate with her daughter and grand daughter made the whole trip worth while. Miss K had a great time playing with the makeup from ‘Little Cosmetics’Β and making her baby doll and mommy look pretty. Grandma got in on the fun too when Miss K called her and asked her to join them. She even arranged a pool date for later that afternoon. I can’t wait until next […]

Ice Cream Shop

Ice Cream Shop “I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!” My recent trip to the ice cream shop was so FUN and took me right back to when I was a kid!! Tracy again asked me to photograph she and Lexi doing something they love … spending time together and just being present enjoying each others company. I know Tracy ‘gets it’. She does sessions often and documents them IN PRINT every time with a special book for Lexi. What a gift this will be for Lexi to look back on some day and relive all the special and fun times with her mom. I can’t wait for our next session!!! πŸ™‚ Until next time, Amy xoxo

Desert Sunrise Western Engagement

Desert Sunrise Western Engagement This GORGEOUS sunrise session happened in part because it was predicted to be 115 degrees at sunset. So the alternative was to have a sunrise session where we enjoyed 75 degrees instead. Sign me up! I know Alex and Justin were happy and I think ‘Olaf’ and ‘Kid’ were too! I love including the whole family in sessions. The horses are such a huge part of their lives, there was no question they should be in attendance. They were perfect gentlemen too; I just wished I had thought to bring them a treat for being such good boys. πŸ˜‰ For these two, the setting for their engagement session is so different than what they’ll have for their wedding. Opposite ends of the world really, but I’m sure they’ll be just as stunning on the beach as they were in the desert. I’m excited to see pictures from their magical day. Congratulations Alex and Justin!   Until next time, Amy xoxo

Rustic Arizona Engagement

Rustic Arizona Engagement at Venue at the Grove These two were so FUN to spend time with. I’ve know Amanda for a while now but it was the first time meeting Joe. It was great to see him so into the session and doing everything he could to make her vision and dreams come true. An awesome start to ‘happily ever after’ don’t you think? A lot of guys don’t really care for photography sessions (and Joe is no different) but he was going with the flow to make his future bride happy and that’s all that mattered. In the end, I think he actually had fun too! Amanda and my styles are a lot a like and that’s partly the reason that I’ll be photographing their wedding this fall. I love the casual feel of a rustic wedding and I’m sure theirs will be nothing short of a storybook. I can’t wait to see all the little details they’re planning come alive and I’ll be there to capture it all. ‘The hunt’ may be over but the adventure has just begun. Congratulations you two … next stop, “I do”! Until next time, Amy xoxo

Forever Begins Today … Colorful Desert Wedding!

Forever begins today … a colorful desert wedding! I was thrilled to get the call from Kaleigh when she asked if I could be available to shoot her wedding. She and my girls have been friends for years so it was great to see her again for such a happy occasion. We met a couple of times and discovered quite by accident the perfect location for their ‘reveal’ and pre-wedding pictures. The wedding colors were purple and gold and this graffiti wall seemed to fit in perfectly with their casual style. Follow along to see highlights from the whole day …   The guys having fun (as they always seem to do) before the girls arrived. πŸ˜‰ I love these moments of anticipation!!! *and the happy tears! Kaleigh’s hair was so beautiful and fit her personality and complemented her dress perfectly! The wind was giving us fits though, so the bridesmaids came to the rescue. You can read a little more about it here. I just LOVE her choice to have a variety of designs and colors for the girls. How fun!! And again it was very true to their styles and personality. What’s a celebration without a little ‘pre-game’ […]
